The coaches at the sports directorate of Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) have been training the KNUST Cross Country Team for the past few days ahead of the 24th edition of the Cross Country.
The 2019 edition of the Inter-University Cross Country will be held at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENER), Sunyani from 31st October to 4th November 2019.
KNUST is hoping to improve upon its performance of last year’s edition after they placed 5th in the overall competition.
After a successful local cross country which took place two weeks ago at the Paa Joe stadium, the selected athletes have been on vigorous preparations in an attempt to come home with flying colors.
Nine Universities will participate in the 24th edition of the competition under the patronage of Professor Harrison Kwame Dapaah, Vice-Chancellor of UENR. The Universities are; University of Ghana (UG), University of Cape Coast (UCC), Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), University of Education, Winneba (UEW), University of Mines and Technology (UMaT), University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) and University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
Team KNUST is expected to depart on Thursday 31st October 2019.
Cross Country is one of the disciplines under the umbrella sport of athletics and it is a natural terrain version of long-distance track and road running.
The athletes are expected to run for 10km through the routes of the rugged surface with minimal obstructions.
