Head of Department (HOD) of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Prof. Dr. Ir. Peter Twumasi has been appointed as the new Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) after the resignation of Honorable Robert Sarfo-Mensah as the Director General of NSA.
According to a statement signed by Minister for Youth and Sports Hon. Isaac Kwame Asiamah, Professor Twumasi, would take over from Robert Sarfo Mensah, whilst Mr. Abdul Majeed Bawa reverts to his position as Deputy Director General, after being in an acting position for a while.
The statement also added that necessary steps will be taken to regularize the appointment of Prof. Peter Twumasi in accordance with the relevant provisions of the constitution and sports Act, 2016(934).

About Professor Peter Twumasi
Prof. Dr. Ir. Peter Twumasi born on May 25, 1974 also known as Kofi, Kwadwo, Ofori is the Head of Department (HOD) of the Department of Biochemistry and Biotechnology, College of Science at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)
As a Biochemist and Biotechnologist, he has been involved in several biochemical and molecular biology research projects in the areas of programmed cell death (or apoptosis), DNA fingerprinting, microbial and plant genetic diversity studies, and PCR-based molecular diagnosis of infectious diseases (Hepatitis B Virus, HIV, bacterial and fungal diseases).
Currently, his research lab focuses on heavy metallic assessment of food crops grown at Galamsey mining areas and refuse dumpsites in Ghana, DNA fingerprinting for forensic purposes, screening of food samples for GM food contamination, PCR-based molecular diagnosis of viral and bacterial infections and genetic analysis of syndromic and non-sydromic human orofacial clefts in the African population.
