Director of Sports at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science & Technology (KNUST), Dr. Anthony Adjei Tetteh Oppai has questioned the mechanism Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) put in place to approve athletes for the various competition organized by the association.
The knowledgeable sports administrator felt bitter about how athletes who got rejected by KNUST’s academic board were able to get an approved admission in other public Universities.
His team, KNUST had placed 5th in both men and women divisions at this year’s Inter-University Cross Country which took place on Saturday, November 2, 2019, at the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR).
In an interview with Focus Sports after the race, Dr. Oppai opined;
“I personally still have problems with what’s going on in GUSA because eligibility is not working at all”. He said
“People that KNUST didn’t give admission before you realize, there will be running against you for other schools and no one cares.
“Seriously, GUSA has to work on the eligibility issues because I have been raising questions of such at meetings”.
“What KNUST cannot take before you realize, other institutions are taking, so what are the academic boards for the various schools saying about this?”
“Personally, I have seen so many people who passed through my hands and because of their grades couldn’t make it to KNUST but are currently competing for other schools
“This is the last time am talking about this issue because it’s not fair”. He added
