Egex, a group by some engineering students at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology is set to introduce a project called Pogex which aims at generating electricity and gas for cooking.
This project when fully materialized could help reduce the energy crisis the country is facing and would also improve sanitation situation in the country since organized kitchen waste would be gathered to be used.
Speaking to Asamany Henry Selase and Ahadzi Eric Kosi who are members of the group on ‘Nyansapo’ on Focus FM, they say their aim is to use organized kitchen waste (leftover food) as feedstock for the building of a biogas digester which would in turn generate electricity as well as gas for cooking.
They added that they aim at becoming an internationally recognized company to address various energy challenges. They also stated that they would compete with the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in providing electricity. This they believe will help improve the energy situation in Ghana and surrounding countries.
The group made their project known visible when they participated in the 2014 Ghana Engineering Students Association (GESA) makers’ fair which took place on October 10, where they became runners up for the competition.
