The Neurosurgery ward at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has been unable to perform surgeries for about three months due to a lack of ventilators.
This situation has caused great concern among patients, who are urging authorities to address the issue.
A patient (whose name has been withheld) at the ward expressed his concerns to Nana Tuffuor Boateng on Friday on Point Blank on Eyewitness News.
He described the situation as dire, as they were uncertain about the potential consequences.
He pointed out that the doctors had informed them that they were awaiting surgery, but could not provide a specific date, which was causing anxiety.
“The situation is very critical because patients are unable to tell when they will be scheduled for surgery specifically for those who have to be on major surgeries. So all the patients on the ward who are to undergo major surgeries are waiting and that is what the doctors keep saying.”
“…A particular date is unable to be given and the reason that has been allocated to this is that the department shares an ICU,” he stated.
