Kuapa Kokoo demands speedy probe into corruption charges against some officials

Ghana Agriculture News-The management of Kuapa Kokoo is urging the Ghana Police Service to take up pace in investigating corruption charges the union raised against some of its officials.

The management, led by Madam Fatima Ali is unhappy these officials are roaming from one media house to the other, courting public sympathy.

She believes a conclusion to the matter will silence those officials who are believed to be enjoying unduly from the sweat of the poor farmers.

Madam Fatima Ali was addressing the National Executive Council (NEC) and Society Presidents at an emergency meeting which sought to quell “false allegations” being spewed on various media platforms.

She tasked the leadership to engage the various law enforcement agencies where official reports of embezzlement have been lodged with the view of intensifying investigations in order to rapidly get closure on the matter.

Kuapa Kokoo accuses some officials of embezzling funds; a situation they believe led to the collapse of their credit union amongst other unfortunate repercussions. The company wants to get officials they believe are complicit prosecuted in order to retrieve the said funds.

The Madam Ali led management believes delays in investigations are hampering their house cleaning and restructuring exercise.

Some of these officials whose fates hung in the balance are seeking election into offices of responsibility; a move the current management believes is calculated to cover their tracks. Some of the embattled officials are alleged to have embezzled monies to the tune of GHC 5,000,000 and are hoping the monies will be written off as bad debt once they get elected into leadership positions.

According to  a strongly worded press statement signed by the Administrator of Kuapa Kokoo Farmers’ Cooperative Union (KKFU); Bernard Missedja Thursday, July 26, 2018, the plots of the embattled individuals have been exposed by some of the farmers they met with whom they attempted luring with money to join their campaign to break the rank and file of the union.

“Their modus operandi was very difficult to detect until the current leadership led by Madam Fatima Ali took over and decided to sanitize the system in their restructuring exercise after discovering some discrepancies in the accounts of the company at various locations”, the statement in part read.

The statement also said “Some of these candidates were strategically being pushed by some of the members who have been implicated in various degrees of embezzlement with the hope that they will discontinue the investigation and clear them of any wrong doing once they are successful with their grand scheme.

The purchase of cocoa this year has been all time high and unprecedented in the history of the Union. “This could partly be attributed to management’s resolve to fight corruption and the systemic restructuring of the Union to make it attractive to both international and local investors which these disgruntled players are seeking to destroy with their actions”.
