Kumasi Mayor Presents Cheques, Certificates to 14 Selected Climate Action Groups.

Kumasi Mayor, Hon Samuel Pyne presenting a certificate, cheque and a letter of authorisation to Rodeline Adwoa Saah Asare Darko, leader of Earth Guardians Group at the KMA conference hall on Wednesday morning.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon Samuel Pyne on Wednesday presented cheques totalling 50,000 dollars 💸 to 14 selected youth groups to enable them roll out their respective proposals on actions that could positively impact the climate in the metropolis.

The groups also received their certificates authorising them to carry out their climate actions in the areas of operation.

Speaking briefly at the handing over ceremony at the Kumasi Metro Conference Hall, Hon Pyne urged the beneficiary groups to make judicious use of the funds that had been disbursed to them from Bloomberg Philanthropies so that the city could be in pole position to secure a further 150, 000 dollars in October to continue with the climate action project when they succeed.

“I urge the 14 selected groups to use the funds allocated to carry out their action plans so well to ensure that we can secure a further boost of 150, 000 when their work is given all clear by Bloomberg Philanthropies evaluation team”, the Mayor stated.

Select Committee Chairman:
Professor Prince Aboagye Anokye, Senior Lecturer, Department of Planning and Chairman of the Select Committee on Youth in Climate Action explained that the beneficiary groups had been carefully screened and scrutinised to have the funds to implement their proposals.

According to him, the committee used the criteria set out by the Bloomberg Philanthropies to scrutinise the several applications it received.

He noted that subsequent reviews of the applications and in person interviews were conducted before a final determination was arrived at.

“You’ve been selected based on the interesting and forward looking climate action proposals you presented to the committee and i urge you to go out there to utilise the funds you’ve received to bring out impactful outcomes”, Prof Anokye intimated.

Beneficiary Groups:
Joseph Quaicoe, leader of Sustainere, one of the beneficiary groups said his group’s proposal is to ensure they plant trees 🌳  in some locations in the Kumasi Metropolis and monitor same to ensure it grows to positively impact the climate in those areas.

“We have a plan to make the trees 🌳 we intend planning grow to our expectation so that it can affect the kind of air residents breathe at those communities”, the leader stated.

Rodeline Adwoa Saah Asare Darko, leader of Earth Guardians Group stressed the determination of her team to teach the proper way of waste segregation and sorting.

“We believe that getting it right with the way we segregate our waste before they are disposed off could help us achieve good environments which would positively impact on the climate in our communities”, Miss Asare Darko stated.
