Kumasi Mayor Tours Burnt Market Arena…Grants Permission For Temporary Reconstruction.

The Mayor of Kumasi, Hon. Samuel Pyne on Monday visited some parts of the Central Market (French Line)  to ascertain the damage caused by last Sunday’s fire outbreak.

The cause of the fire is not yet known as investigations are still ongoing by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), Kumasi Metro Directorate.

During the tour, the various commodity leaders of the French Line appealed to the mayor to come to their aid and grant them some support to bounce back to business.

They also pleaded with government to speed up the process of completing the Kejetia Phase II.

Response:
Addressing the victims, Hon. Pyne expressed his sympathy for the loss of items and investments.

He was however glad that no life was lost in the fire.

The Mayor also rubbished rumours that the fire was set by city authorities just to get rid of the traders to make way for the next phase of the Kejetia market reconstruction.

“I want to reiterate that the NPP government was committed to completing the phase II of the Redevelopment project and the authorities would not set fire into anything no matter what or where it is”, Hon Pyne stated.

Promise:
The Mayor also promised to forward the concerns of the traders to the appropriate authorities for redress.

He noted that government would surely attend to the issues and do a follow up on same with the findings from the GNFS.

Showing goodwill towards the affected traders and victims, the Mayor agreed to allow them to reconstruct temporary structures to house their wares.

“I have heard your concerns and pleadings and i want to grant you the opportunity to reconstruct some temporary structures so you can re- commence your businesses and start life again so you can cater for the needs of your families but I urge that you keep an eye on what you do as well as others since the harmattan is here with us. Therefore do not do anything to occasion any fire situation again”, the Mayor advised.
