Kumawu: Independent candidate Kicks against sale of land to foreigners

Independent Parliamentary candidate for Kumawu constituency; Nana Kwaku Duah,

The Independent Parliamentary candidate for Kumawu constituency in the Ashanti region Nana Kwaku Duah, has risen against the outright sale of lands to foreigners in the country.

He has observed that foreigners are now acquiring and owning lands legally in the country, which to him is not a practice that should be encouraged. He has therefore asked chiefs to put an immediate end to such unpatriotic business.

He has vowed to pursue legislation that puts a stop to the practice when given the opportunity to go to parliament.

He says the best thing to do is to lease the lands to these foreigners but not to sell them outrightly.

We need to protect our lands for our citizenry and for generations yet unborn, but in our case, our chiefs are selling them out.

“Zimbabwe did same and it nearly affected them”, he said, hence, his decision to recommend to parliament to enact a law that will in future restrain chiefs from completely selling our bona fide property to foreigners.

Meanwhile, Kwaku Duah wants the chiefs to reserve lands for future agricultural purposes and urged the chiefs to also release lands for agricultural production in their respective communities.

He also bemoaned the frustrating process of acquiring land for agriculture in the country.

That system ought to be reviewed to pave way for the youth to secure land for farming activities.

In his opinion, it would be appropriate for every community to have land solely reserved for young people who are aspiring to go into farming.

The land acquisition process has been a hindrance to agricultural production and the youth in the country.
