The country may soon be thrown into darkness if the government fails to make funds available to Independent Power Producers (IPPs) soon.
The IPPs say they are unable to afford the cost of sustaining operations since funds for fuel stopped coming some months ago.
CEO of the IPPs; Elikplim Afetorgbor in an interview with Oheneba Asiedu on Fox FM in Kumasi explained that allocations were being received but stopped coming when PDS took over from ECG as the country’s power distributor.
“No reason has been given and it is very frustrating” he said and stressed that with the current situation, power production cannot be sustained for even another week.
He says the consequences of a shutdown of the IPPs will be dire as the country will go back into a state of what has become known as dumsor.
Mr. Afetorgbor hinted that he has heard from unofficial sources that efforts are being made to resolve the matter but is however yet to receive any official communication to that effect.
