Ghana News-Mr John Agyekum Kufuor, a former President and elder of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has cautioned party faithful not to become complacent with the performance of the party in government.
Rather, he has urged party members to work with unity so that the party will continue to be in power for long to be able to implement the policies it has outlined.
Addressing party faithful and delegates at its 26th national delegate conference in Koforidua, the capital of the Eastern Region, Mr Kufuor urged members to constantly work to build a stronger and united front.
Mr Kufuor noted that the impressive performance of the Nana Addo government is easy to trick party people to become complacent in working to gain more grounds for the party in the next elections.
‘’Let us not become swollen headed, self-conceited or complacent with the good performance of our party in government but rather commit ourselves to work more in unity so that we can continue to win elections in 2020 and beyond’’, Mr Kufuor posited.
PRINCIPLES:
According to the former President, the Danquah-Busia-Dombo ideals enjoin party members to work with the convictions of building a stronger party.
These convictions, he noted binds members together despite their differences in opinions, views or manner they wished things were done by leaders.
Many in the NPP, Mr Kufuor mentioned may have divergent views on how things should be done in the party’s forward march.
However, he urged that party members rise above personal differences and be united by the corporate good of the NPP.
‘’We are followers of Danquah-Busia-Dombo tradition that urges us to serve in humility as we sacrifice for the ultimate good of the people of Ghana’’, Mr Kufuor urged.
ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE:
Mr Kufuor commended the Nana Addo government for performing creditably in its first 18moths in power.
This performance, he noted are at all fronts including the macro economics level, adding the influx of multi-national companies seeking to invest in the country is testament to that fact.
He stated the four year mandate is too short for a great deal to be achieved in government but the NPP had done very well even in these 18months.
Mr Kufuor therefore urged the party to redouble its efforts so the party can finish well in its first four year term and make a second term mandate a necessity from the Ghanaian people.
‘’Four years is too short for any serious government such as ours to do some monumental things but from what we have been able to achieve we need to maintain and get more terms in office addition’’, Mr Kufuor passionately expressed.
