Long ministerial queue to welcome Bawumia needless – Kofi Bentil

Vice President of Policy think tank Imani Africa, Kofi Bentil, has criticized the long ministerial queue at the Kotoka International Airport to welcome Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The private legal practitioner who made the comment on Joy News’s Newsfile programme while discussing the return of Dr Mahamudu Bawumia from his sick leave said the recuperating Vice President did not the hugs.

The Vice President was welcomed with a presidential ceremony on Thursday with hugs, handshakes, and smiles from the president Nana Akufo-Addo, his wife Rebecca Akufo-Addo and a host of cabinet ministers.

He had been out of the country for 12 days after he reported sick on January 19. A statement from the presidency said the veep will be travelling to the United Kingdom on medical leave.

Mr. Bentil was of the view that the ceremonial welcome of the Vice President should have been substituted for a subtle and quite entry back to the country.

He said; “even when I had my wedding, I got pains from my cheeks as a result of the need to smile to everybody. I did not think Bawumia was ready to go through similar bouts of smiles on his return from sick leave”.

Mr. Kofi Bentil who further eulogized Dr. Bawumia says he hopes the ‘brilliant’ Vice President who in his opinion is the best the country has ever had succeeds President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to take over the reins of the country.
