Since he returned from his short stay in the UK last year, Afro pop artiste, Atumpan, has found ways to make himself relevant on the music scene.
He released a few songs including Regina, which featured dancehall artiste, Samini. Regina gave him some attention and Atumpan seems ready to make more strides in the music business this year.
Just last week, he released his first song for the year, Poison, which is a caution to men to be wary of “dangerous women”.
Produced by Tema based sound producer, Mix Masta Garzy, Atumpan raps about how some women have turned themselves to scavengers ripping off many men of their money with their beauty.
He sings about how many young ladies use their beauty as a bait to get men “into their net” and describes such ladies as posion.
The song, may not have quality sound compared to his previous songs but on Poison, which is hip life, Atumpan shows his maturity in his lyrics.
He raps, “she is cheap like water so you go suck like water”. He goes on to warn men not to be attracted to women just because of their beauty but look beyond that and seek for good character instead.
In an interview with Showbiz last week Friday, Atumpan said the song wasn’t to underrate women but an advice to them to value themselves and take pride in themselves.
“I have read all the comments from female fans on social media who think the song gives bad publicity about them. That is not what the song is intended to achieve. This is just a creative piece that I put together from what happens in our society and from personal experience.
“It’s just unfortunate that some ladies have read different meanings into the song,” he said.
Real name, Frank Elinam Cobbinah, Atumpan shot to fame in 2011 when he released his debut song, The thing.
Last year, he courted the displeasure of some of his colleagues when he took a swipe at them for not collaborating with new artistes.
A product of Wiawso College of Education and University of Education Winneba, where he read a Bachelor’s Degree programme in English Language, Atumpan is a recipient of Best International Afrobeats in the 2013 BEFFTA Awards.
Currently signed on to Hard Boy Music label, Atumpan is known for songs like Regina, Clap Clap, Bad Mad, Trust, Akonoba and Nyash.
