Mahama Ayariga in trouble over apology to Ofori-Atta
Majority Leader in Ghana’s Parliament; Mahama Ayariga has incurred the anger of many Ghanaians especially social media users over his apology to former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Mahama Ayariga Thursday apologized to the former Finance Minister over an unsanctioned raid on his private residence by some staff of the country’s National Security outfit.
He indicated that his side had received word from the office of the National security coordinator that what happened was unsanctioned and hence regrettable. According to him, the Office of the National Security Coordinator also assured that such an event will not occur in the future.
Mahama Ayariga also assured his colleagues on the minority side that “this side of the house remains committed to ensuring that this country is reset, that its institutions function properly, that its officials act in accordance with the law and that the rights and liberties of every citizen are upheld and protected under the regime of H.E John Dramani Mahama”.
He ended with a personal apology saying “I personally extend my apologies to the former minister of finance and I believe that this should suffice”.
Social media users who commented on snippets of the video of the Hon. Majority leader’s delivery have not however not been kind to him over what some consider a weak stance. Many say the NPP when they took power did so much more and are not deserving of the apology.
