President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone has lauded the current Chairman of ECOWAS for his dynamism and leadership of the sub regional grouping. President John Mahama assumed the Chair of the ECOWAS Authority in February, and, according to the Sierra Leonean leader, he is expecting the grouping to make good progress during the Ghanaian President’s tenure.
Speaking to journalists in Accra after a meeting with President Mahama, Mr. Koroma referred to the just-held 45th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority in Accra, noting that it was “one of the best organised and the most productive meetings that we have had, and if we continue with this kind of leadership in ECOWAS, I am sure we will go a long way in achieving the protocols that we have set out to address the specific issues that are now affecting the sub region.”
Mr. Mahama, he stated, has hit the ground running, adding that the security situation is improving in the sub-region, and “I am sure with the leadership and dynamism that he is bringing into ECOWAS, we will only go to higher heights.” Below is a transcript of what President Ernest Bai Koroma said.
He has hit the ground running. He has been a member of ECOWAS and his leadership is showing some difference, because the just-concluded meeting is one of the best organised and the most productive meetings that we have had, and if we continue with this kind of leadership in ECOWAS, I am sure we will go a long way in achieving the protocols that we have set out to address the specific issues that are now affecting the sub region.
In addition to the protocols that we believe we should implement, we have the security issues like what is happening in Nigeria, we have had issues in Guinea Bissau, but relatively, things are improving, and I am sure with the leadership and dynamism that he is bringing into ECOWAS, we will only go to higher heights.
