Make conscious investments into private universities-Former Energy Minister appeals to gov’t

A former Minister for Energy, Professor Joe Oteng Adjei has appealed to government to channel some level of investments into private university education in the country.
These investments, Professor Adjei noted would enable these private tertiary institutions to expand facilities in their schools and help to enrol more people into their fold.

Speaking as special guest at the fourth congregation of the Christ Apostolic University College (CAUC) at Kwadaso, a municipality in the Ashanti Region, the professor in electrical engineering noted that the establishment of private universities in the country has helped in providing equal and competing opportunities for people who could not get access into public universities.

These private universities, the guest speaker intimated has helped to shape the human resource of the country and increased the number of people pursuing academic excellence.
”I appeal to government to charge the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) to facilitate the construction of more infrastructure and lecture halls so as to help expand facilities at the private universities”, Prof Oteng Adjei appealed.

CHARGE:
Prof Oteng Adjei also charged private universities to offer courses that are relevant to the current or modern trends in the market.

He urged the universities to design innovative courses and programs to respond to needs on the job market both in Ghana and abroad.

The Church which owns most of these private universities, Prof Adjei noted needed to find innovative ways of sustaining itself to stay attractive to the public.

”I charge the church not to just establish universities for establishing sake but raise funds to sustain its operations all year round”, the guest speaker reiterated.

CHANCELLOR:
Addressing the graduating students earlier, Apostle Dr S.K.N Amoani, Chancellor of CAUC charged them to shine out the qualities they have learnt to build in themselves.

This, he noted will distinguish them from ordinary people.

The values CAUC is noted for, Apostle Amoani urged should be projected wherever they find themselves.

PRESIDENT:
Incoming President of CAUC, Prof Clement Somuah indicated the resolve of the school to uphold the academic standards of the school.

He also expressed the determination to build and imbibe in students balance in values both in academics and in their spirituality.
