MAKE OTUMFUO PROUD BY WINNING EL-CLASSICO—-KUMASI MAYOR CHARGES KOTOKO PLAYERS
The Youth and Sports Sub-Committee of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly has declared support for Asante Kotoko FC in the upcoming super clash between the latter and Accra Hearts of Oak.
In a statement signed and issued on Thursday, Convener for the Committee Hon. Kwasi Kwarteng stated its hopes in a fair handling of the duel which comes off Sunday.
“It our belief that whoever is selected to handle this all-important match would be fair to both teams to avoid any unexpected situation, and we hope at the end of the game Kotoko would be the winner”. It stated.
Reminiscing the unforgettable May 9 disaster, the Committee advised all fans of both teams to show some sportsmanship and exercise restraint in order to avoid another disaster.
MAYOR:
On his part, Hon Osei Assibey Antwi urged Kotoko team to play to lift the name of Otumfuo and Asanteman high.
He noted that a win for Kotoko would be an ideal tonic for a good weekend.
The Mayor prayed for the team and asked that they go all out and get the three points at stake.
He pledged full support for the team in te game.

Matches between Kumasi Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak have been dubbed Ghana’s version of El Classico due to the strong rivalry between the two ancient clubs.
BACKGROUND:
Currently Accra Hearts of Oak has 53 points with one outstanding match with Legon Cities which will be played on Thursday evening. Kotoko has 56 points after playing Karela United on Wednesday at the Len Clay Stadium.
The winner of Sunday’s crucial clash would be the ultimate winner of the league , however a drawn game would make Hearts of Oak the favorites since they are leading Kotoko some goals.
