Ghana Politics News-The Member of Parliament for Asokwa, Madam Patricia Appiagyei yesterday toured some schools and offices of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) located within the constituency.
This forms part of her annual routine where she visits state institutions, schools and public places to familiarize herself with happenings.
At the Ahensan and Chirapatre public schools where a publicized vacation class is being held for JHS pupils and pre-SHS students, about 250 boys and girls had reported to partake in the exercise.
Visiting the NHIS office later in the day, Madam Appiagyei received a rousing welcome from staff and management of the Scheme.
OBSERVATIONS:
Speaking to this reporter after the visits, Madam Appiagyei noted her delight to get first hand information about the happenings in her constituency.
She stressed such visits helps her to plan towards getting responses to meet challenges those places may be facing.
She applauded the Youth Wing of the Asokwa NPP for organizing the vacation classes, adding this will ensure pupils stay in class to revise for the upcoming term in their schools.
Madam Appiagyei profusely commended Papa Yaw Asare-Bediako for effectively managing the Asokwa NHIS office despite having deficits in resources and equipment.
She promised to get the NHIS office a brand new printer so they could see to the huge numbers which visits the office daily in a faster pace.
‘’It is a great privilege to learn at first hand that pupils in Asokwa want to be in school to study even when they are on vacation’’, Madam Appiagyei noted.
She said, ‘visiting the NHIS office too I have learnt how they work and having received my NHIS card today within a short time I believe they deserve every support to enable them work at optimum levels’.

Speaking to this reporter, Papa Yaw Asare Bediako, Scheme Manager for Asokwa NHIA thanked the MP for the gesture.
He noted the visit will spur the workers and management on since it makes them aware that their services are being monitored by people in authority.
With staff strength of about 27 people and 13 national service personnel helping out, the manager expressed their determination to serve the people of Asokwa.
He mentioned plans to conduct outdoor sensitization programs so as educate the public on the need for them to register on the Scheme to help them access care at the hospital.
