Ghana Education News-The Mampong Nursing and Midwifery Training College has run to a halt starting tonight.
Students of the Mampong Midwifery training institution say they are boycotting all activities as a way of protesting the carefree attitude of their authorities.
They say they are now in constant fear for their lives as armed robberies continue to happen along paths leading from their hostels to the campus.
Some Executives of the Students’ Representative Council who spoke to Bernard Buachi of rawgist.com explained that they cannot continue to watch while their colleagues are attacked daily with hammers, knives and clubs and robbed of their belongings.
They narrate that these attacks happen during afternoons and evenings and have been very consistent within the past 2 to 3 weeks.
“Our Principal and authorities don’t seem to care”, they lamented. They said 5 ladies were attacked on Thursday. The students say though the Principal went with those attacked and some Student leaders to the police station, they were not satisfied with the principal’s attitude especially when nothing was done for the reason that the students could not identify who their assailants were.
The SRC executives say the straw that broke the camel’s back is the fact that more students suffered attacks at the school today.
They accuse the management of the school of not showing any concern for their welfare and insist they will boycott all students’ activities including attending dining hall sessions and remain in their rooms as a way of driving home their grievances.
