About five hundred (500) delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Asawasi last Saturday stormed the constituency office to pick nomination forms for Manaf Ibrahim, a parliamentary hopeful.
The move by the group was to ensure their choicest aspirant file for the parliamentary primaries set by the party for orphan constituencies.
Singing and drumming with deafening noise from Dogo Moro park, the group led by Afrifa Benjamin, one of the leaders of the Manaf Ibrahim Fun Club presented a draft cheque of GHC 2, 000 to party officers at a brief ceremony.
Though the hard copy of the forms were not available as at the time the group got to the constituency office, Mr Afrifa told the Ghanaian Observer newspaper that they had prior information that the national officer conveying the forms had had an emergency situation to attend to.
”We the friends of Manaf Ibrahim are very confident that having submitted our draft cheque which is a requirement to showing the intent of our aspirant to contesting the upcoming primaries we are sure that we will have the forms by Tuesday to allow our brother to fill and submit before the deadline the party has set out for aspirants elapse”, the spokesperson posited.
DECISION:
Explaining the rationale to pick nomination forms for the aspirant who was out of the country as at last Saturday, the group’s spokesperson said they have hope in Manaf Ibrahim to win the Asawasi seat for the NPP in the 2020 polls.
The spokesperson noted that the Asawasi constituency have lagged behind in terms of development.
This situation, Mr Afrifa claimed was because the party’s current Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong who was the former parliamentary hopeful for the party in 2016, Alidu Seidu lacked the needed lobbying skills to get decent jobs and development for the constituency.
This narrative, the spokesperson said would be reversed when their choicest aspirant wins the seat to represent the constituency and party in Parliament in 2020.
”We have known and worked with Manaf Ibrahim and we can attest to his character, mannerisms and competences that he is fully baked to lead the development efforts of this constituency as MP and make Asawasi a beacon of hope”, the spokesperson passionately stressed.
RECEPTION:
Receiving the draft cheque from group’s spokesperson earlier in the day, Noah Owusu , Asawasi NPP constituency 1st Vice chairman thanked the group for fulfilling a requirement for the picking of nomination forms.
The draft cheque, the chaiman noted was enough evidence that Manaf Ibrahim has an intent of contesting the upcoming parliamentary elections in the constituency.
The picking of nomination forms, Mr Owusu revealed has been set for 14 clear days, adding as at the time the group arrived nobody had picked any form.
He assured the group of their aspirant’s forms by Tuesday by which time he hoped the national officer would have made it available to the constituency.
