At two brief presentation ceremonies at the precincts of Sepe Buokrom and Moshie Zongo health centers, Hon Amankwah said the donation was to help the centers provide adequate and proper care to its numerous attendants and patients.
He noted the medical supplies were to given him by two institutions namely the National Cancer Coalition based in the United States of America, (USA) and its local affiliate, the Breast Care Center, (BCI) Ghana.
COMMENDATION:
Revealing how the equipment was supplied to the two clinics, Hon Amakwah praised the efforts of Dr(Mrs) Beatrice Wiafe Addai,
Leader of Breast Care International (BCI)for soliciting support for them.
According to him, having received a 40 feet container stocked with supplies from its USA affiliates, the BCI leader decided to donate them freely to constituencies she considered lowly resourced.
”I am here today to share with you what our mother, Dr Wiafe Addai freely donated to us after convincing her international partners the dire need we have here in our hospitals”, Hon Amankwah disclosed.
MOTIVE:
Hon Amankwah mentioned the supplies were given to him and others based upon the under-resourced nature of clinics and health centers across the constituencies.
The gesture, he therefore stressed was timely since many would now have the opportunity to be treated with high profile medicines.
Though the health centers were not treating sophisticated cases at their end, nonetheless Hon Amankwah noted the equipment would largely help staff and doctors to easily diagnose the problems and ailments many presented at the clinics.
ADVICE:
The MP, however, admonished the doctors and staff to take good care of the expensive equipment so as to ensure attendants and patients derive the necessary benefits from it.
”I was given these drugs and equipment freely to donate to you and I believe that if we take good care of the equipment many others would be encouraged to give us to augment what the government provides”, Hon Amankwah stressed.
He also cautioned the hospital administrators and staff not to sell the drugs which had been supplied them since the US donors would be monitoring to see how it was used.
RESPONSES:
Mrs Maria Nuhu, Head of the Sepe Buokrom Health Center expressed profuse gratitude to the MP.
She promised to keep the equipment well, adding the drugs would be given freely as has been advised.
She called on the public as well as philanthropists to come to the aid of the health center with medical supplies since it always run short of it.
According to her, the health facility has had to deal with a large population since it was the only facility close to the residents of Buokrom.
Mrs Victoria Darko, Midwife at the Moshie Zongo Health Center also thanked the MP for the gesture and urged others to follow his example since the clinic was very distressed and lacked basic equipment to conduct deliveries at the maternal center.
She also requested for the tarring of the road in front of the health center so as to prevent pregnant women from falling inside the huge gutter near the facility.
