Manhyia North MP to go unopposed?

Information trickling to the stables of the Ghanaian Observer newspaper indicates one Akwasi Konadu, an aspirant who intends to challenge the incumbent Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah would be hauled to court to answer claims of malfeasance at a company he submitted for a contract with the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).

The company by name Greenfield is alleged to have failed to properly account for proceeds of its enterprise in a contract with the KMA.

A source at KMA said the company is yet to account for the loss of about 800, 000gh due the assembly.

At the time of going to press, the KMA had not officially responded to the issue even though one Frederick Addae, an aide to the KMA mayor is reported to have been sacked due to his involvement in the stinking deal.

VETTING:
A source at the recent vetting of aspirants at Manhyia North said the issue of Greenfield came up when about three petitioners furnished the committee with some documents of the alleged rot.

However, the committee chaired by John Boadu, the party’s general secretary  alongside Chairman Antwi Boasiako, Ashanti Regional Chairman of NPP as well as others deferred going into the merits of the case arguing that it will cause tension in the constituency when the MD who is an aspirant is disqualified.

But speaking to this reporter, Paa Kwasi Wazzy, one of the petitioners noted that they plan taking the matter to court.

He argued that Manhyia North is a decent constituency which did not need any allegation of fraud to be levelled against any contender or aspirant in the NPP branch.

BALLOT PLACEMENT:
Interestingly, the incumbent MP, Hon Collins Owusu Amankwah at the vetting committee meeting picked the number one spot on the ballot.

This will be the third time the youthful legislator will be battling to retain a seat he won for the NPP in 2012.

Currently, the Member of Parliament is the Chairman of the Government Committee on Assurances.

Having being sworn in over the weekend as a member of the Ecowas Parliament, Hon Collins Owusu Amankwah is tipped to retain the seat he has held sway for two terms.
