Manhyia North MP withdraws assault case against Wontumi

Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Collins Owusu Amankwah has asked the Police to discontinue the pursuit of the assault case against his assailant; Mr. Bernard Antwi Boasiako.

NPP Ashanti regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, is currently facing charges in a court in Kumasi for attacking the MP.

Lawyers of the MP wrote to the Police to  chairman-wontumiinform them of their client’s decision “to pursue settlement” and indicated that they “would be grateful if you could graciously suspend further action on the case to enable the parties in good faith resolve the issue in pursuit of the said settlement”.

The NPP chairman allegedly dished out some slaps  to the Manhyia North MP and his constituency secretary, during the ongoing limited voter registration exercise last Sunday.

The MP later reported the matter to the police at Tafo Pankrono.

Subsequently, the Ashanti Regional Police Command issued a warrant for Wontumi’s arrest to assist in investigations.

Chairman Wontumi on Tuesday reported himself to the police but was later detained forcing party supporters to besiege the Police station demanding the Chairman’s release.

He has however been released on bail.
