MDD PARTNERS NCCE TO EDUCATE PUBLIC ON CONSTITUTION

The Movement for Defence of Democracy (MDD), an organization dedicated for the education of people on human rights, the provisions of the 1992 Constitution and democracy in Ghana, has entered into partnership with the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) to create awareness of constitutional provisions.
The two bodies have since July 28, 2020 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bring the collaboration into fruition.
Mr. Samuel Asare Akuamoah, Deputy Chairman in charge of Operations signed the MoU on behalf of NCCE while Mr. Emmanuel Kwame Boamah, the Chief Executive Officer of MDD endorsed the document.
The parties have decided to work together to create awareness, promote and educate Ghanaians on democracy, patriotism and human rights and constitutional provisions.
Under the agreement, the MDD will choose a representative on a leadership committee of the two parties as well as provide collective information education materials including an abridged version of the Constitution in English and local Ghanaian languages.
The MDD will also produce audio recordings of Ghana’s National Anthem and National Pledge in Ghanaian languages and Ghanaian patriotic songs.
By the MoU, which is subject to renewal, the MDD will produce pamphlets on general fundamental human bordering on chapter 5 of the 1992 Constitution and the Universal Declaration on Human Rights.
MDD, among others, is also mandated to organize and facilitate scholarship packages and exchange programs for trainers, trainees and leadership of Civic Clubs as well as create social media platforms for collaborative activities.
The NCCE, which is the constitutional body, mandated to lead civic education delivery in Ghana will, on the other hand, provide collective information and education materials, resource persons, technical advice and coordinate office and officers throughout the districts.
MDD’s CEO Mr. Boamah has said his outfit is undertaking the printing of copies of the abridged version of the Constitution for distribution in schools, civic clubs, churches, workplaces and communities towards achieving its objectives.
He said audio recordings of Ghana’s National Anthem and National Pledge in Ghanaian languages have been produced in eleven Ghanaian languages.
Mr. Boamah has appealed to corporate entities, financial and educational institutions and churches district assemblies to support the MDD in the realization of its core mandate under the collaboration with the NCCE towards the creation of awareness, promotion and education of Ghanaians on democracy, patriotism and human rights and constitutional provisions.
