Doe Benjamin Kofi Lawson, popularly known as RSM, though from the Volta region of Ghana, was born in Accra at La-Bawaleshie, East Legon.
He was born to Mr. Adjetey Bassey and Elizabeth Ablah Kumesina Gatsiglo.
Benjamin, as he was affectionately called as a kid took an early interest in radio and decided to become a journalist. He firmly believed that working with the fourth estate of the realm would position him well as a watchdog and defender of the constitution of Ghana.
Through various difficulties, he succeeded in entering the field of media practice. He recounts how he dreamt of working with Peace FM (in Ghana). He followed his heart when he heard of a job offer for a sports commentator. His visit to the station then nearly threw him off his dream as his encounter with Charles Osei Sibey (Barister); a sports presenter there at the time was not as welcoming as he expected. He later chanced on the Award-winning Kwame Sefa Kayi (known more affectionately in media circles as Chairman General). His warm reception kept him resolute in his quest to become a broadcast journalist.
RSM Kofi Doe Lawson holds that he has learnt a great deal about humility from Kwame Sefa Kayi which has guided him in life so far.
He also through his own difficult life has learnt never to give up since “Success does not come on a silver platter”.
He left Accra in 2005 to Techiman in the then Bono Ahafo Region where he worked with Classic FM and Winners FM. He proceeded to the Ashanti region where he worked with Nkosuo Radio, Mighty FM, Free FM and Time FM and returned to Accra in 2017 where he had the chance to work with Homebase TV and hosted the station’s initial flagship program ‘Eboboba’. He went through the ranks of becoming the host of ‘THE LENS’ aired on Fridays.
RSM is currently the News Editor of Homebase TV and doubles up as the host of the prolific ‘Ghana Se Sen’, a current affairs talk show program on Homebase TV. This show to deliberates on issues of national interest.
