A private legal practitioner and a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress(NDC), Mr Abraham Amaliba says some youth within the party’s ranks are threatening to chase out current appointees from their offices if the NDC wins the upcoming 2020 general elections.
This, according to him is based on the unfair treatment being meted out to assigns of the previous government by elements within the ruling New Patriotic Party(NPP).
Speaking to Oheneba Asiedu, morning show host of Silver 98.3Fm, a Kumasi based radio station, the NDC member recounted the hasty manner some of their members had been sacked from the offices they occupied previously.
”Some of our members on our whatsapp platforms are warning the current ministers to start running from their offices as soon as the Electoral Commission declares the NDC as winners in the 2020 elections”, Mr Amaliba revealed.
According to him, dismissal letters had been advanced to some former appointees with timelines ranging between 5 or 6hours, an issue he felt was equal to inhuman treatment.
WORRY:
Expressing profuse worry about the ongoing situation, Mr Amaliba urged the NPP to be cautious about their actions since they would not be in power forever.
He wondered why the ruling government were behaving as if they won power through a coup d’etat by sacking people who occupied public offices previously.
Mr Amaliba noted the anger within the youth ranks of the NDC due to this unfortunate happenings and urged the NPP desisted from these wanton dismissals.
He asked the president, Nana Akufo-Addo to stem the ongoing tide since it had the potential of denting his image as a human rights lawyer of repute.
SPECIAL PROSECUTOR:
Commenting on the decision by the new government to introduce a special prosecutor to the scheme of things, Mr Amaliba insited that there was no need for the creation of this new office.
According to him, it was a complete waste of time, resources and funds since the same job being designed for the new prosecutor could adequately be handled by the Attorney General.
He stressed the claim by the president to protect the public purse would become mere rhetoric when he continues to be fixated in creating needless offices in addition to the huge numbers that are occupying state agencies as heads.
Mr Amaliba wondered why the president with the huge numbers of 110 ministers would still be thinking of adding more hands to tackle the challenges facing the country.
”What on earth can one special prosecutor do that the current Attorney General cannot do for you to seek to saddle this country with huge wage bill despite having 110 ministers to govern”, the NDC member quizzed.
