Ghana News–The Ghana Chapter of the Millennium Promise Group, an international Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) has given medical supplies and equipment valued at 160,000 dollars to the Ghana Health Service (GHS).
The items consisting of drugs, solar batteries and panels as well as tablets were handed over to the Ashanti Regional Directorate of the Ghana Health Service at a brief ceremony last Tuesday in Kumasi.
Presenting the items on behalf of the International NGO, Chief Nat Ebo Nsarko, country Director of Millennium Promise expressed happiness at the opportunity to contribute to the health needs of Ghana.
According to him, it is important that primary health care is supported especially at places where community health workers are engaged to live in compounds provided by the Community to deliver basic health care.
This, he noted informed the purpose of the donation so that the primary health strategy by the GHS would yield the required results.
‘’We at the Millennium Promise with the launch of our One Million Community Health Worker (1mCHW) project has over the years worked with the Ghana Health Service and the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to recruit, train, equip and deploy people to strengthen the home visitation component of the CHPs strategy’’, Chief Nsarko noted.
He therefore expressed delight at the decision by the GHS to distribute the medicines which include 50,000 RDTs, 100,000 sachets of ORS, 500 packets of zinc tablets and others to 36 CHP zones in the demonstration districts in the Ashanti Region.

Receiving the medical supplies on behalf of the Family Health Division of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Aboagye thanked the NGO for the gesture.
He noted the medical supplies and other useful items such as the solar lamps and tablet will aid in the health care delivery efforts of the GHS.
With the unavailability of constant electricity in remote areas of the Region, Dr Aboagye mentioned the provision of solar powered lamps and batteries will aid the delivery of uninterrupted care to residents of these communities.
REGIONAL DIRECTOR:
Dr Emmanuel Tinkorang, the Ashanti Regional Director of Health Services praised the efforts of the International NGO.
The volume of the medical supplies by the group, Dr Tinkorang noted attested to the commitment of Millennium Promise to ensuring the health needs of citizens are catered for.
He also commended the group for consistently carrying out similar deployment of health supplies to the over 20 countries they are operating in across the World.
