Minister for Defence designate moots ideas to improve female participation at GAF

Females in the Ghana Armed Forces and those yet to apply may be benefitting from very favorable decisions as part of efforts to increase the number of females and also improve female participation as part of the President’s affirmative action drive.

At the vetting of the Minister of Defence Nominee; Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, he indicated a commitment not to depart from the President’s example of ensuring the increased participation of females in development.

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah even went to the extent of suggesting the formation of a “Women Auxiliary Corp” within the Ghana Armed Forces once approved.

He also believes the Vice President; Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman, being a woman and the Chair of the Armed Forces Council will further guarantee favorable decisions for women in the Ghana Armed Forces.

The Member of Parliament for the Asokwa Constituency; Madam Patricia Appiagyei who was particularly concerned about gender issues during the vetting stressed the importance of implementing gender laws in every aspect of our body politick.
