Minister task GWCL to eliminate illegal-connections

ghanawater-companyMinister of Water Resources Works and Housing, Dr Kwaku Agyemang, has tasked the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) to work towards the elimination of illegal connections which causes the company huge sums of money.

The Minister also expressed worry about the situation where water was left to go waste due to treated water gashing out of broken pipes in localities.

He said such situations were peculiar in the regional capitals across the country.

The GWCL has lost much revenue through the practice of illegal water connections by some persons.

The sector minister therefore charged officials of the GWCL to enforce their monitoring systems to halt such practices.

He also asked them to rely on the Unit Committee Members in the various electoral areas for information about broken pipelines.

“We need to be creative, we need to find innovative ways of making sure that we control our losses otherwise we will produce the water and a sizeable percentage will just disappear,” he expressed.

Dr Agyemang Mensah indicated that there is a growing trend of such practice in the Ghanaian society which he believes need concerted efforts to be able to address the challenge.
