Minister to act on Anloga broken bridge…as it threatens lives

Ghana news–The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah is lacing up to help repair the damaged bridge linking Ahensan Estate to the Anloga route in the Kumasi Metropolis.

Exclusive information available to the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper indicates the Minister has been apprised with the technicalities concerning repair works.

At the time of going to press, a report from the Urban Roads Department had reached the office of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) awaiting the Regional Minister’s advice.

Currently, the bridge is in a scary state with school pupils and the public still using it to attend lessons and other needful activities.

ENGINEER:

Speaking to the Regional Roads Engineer, he indicated the need for the Urban Roads Division to close down the bridge to allow for repair works to be carried out.

The nature of the bridge, Mr Gambrah attested was very scary from the pictures he has seen on his mobile phone.

He, however, requested to speak to the KMA Urban roads director to gauge how they were tackling the repair works.

According to him, it was needful that a bridge that conveys a lot of people is closed down before repair works so as to reduce the risk of it being completely collapsed.

ASSEMBLYMAN:

Speaking to this reporter, Nana Yaw Wiredu, Assemblyman for the Ahensan-Estate Electoral Area decried the delay in repairing the bridge.

According to him, the bureaucracies in getting the Urban Roads Department to attend to the bridge had been many.

He, however, hoped with the involvement of the Regional Minister and with the support of the Urban Roads Director things would move speedily to help forestall any nasty incident occuring.

Nana Yaw urged the public especially patrons of the link bridge to find alternative routes to Anloga, Oforikrom and others so as to minimize the risk of the bridge being collapsed before repair works commence.

He also tasked the Road Division of the KMA to help close down the bridge if their assessment shows any signs of the bridge collapsing soon.
