Ghana News-Executive Secretary of the National Identification Authority; Prof. Ken Attafuah has clarified that no Minority Member of Parliament has been registered for or issued a Ghana card.
Members of the Minority have vowed not to register for the cards after the NIA shot down their demand that the National Voters’ ID card be accepted as a document that qualifies one to register for the Ghana Card.
They also urged their constituents and followers not to register for the cards until the NIA accepts the Voters’ ID cards for the registration.
Photos of purported Ghana cards of some minority Members of Parliament however surfaced on social media over the weekend; a situation that generated a lot of debate on various media platforms including social media.
The Executive Secretary who was speaking on the Super Morning Show on Accra-based Joy fm admitted that the photos circulated on social media looked like the Ghana cards but were fake.
He explained that the numbers on the fake cards deviate radically from the numbering system employed by the authority for the registration. He also explained that the photographs on the fake cards failed to meet the requirements set by the authority for registration for Ghana Cards. He says photos of smiling MPs or MPs seated sideways could not have been the work of the Authority since those are not acceptable according to their standards.
Prof. Attafuah says he is shocked by the move and also at attempts to rope him into the circulation of the photos of the fake cards and states that the Authority will confer on the next step of action regarding the situation.
