The intervention of an Assembly man and some Police Officers prevented what could have been a bloody fight at this year’s farmers’ day celebration of the people of the Kwabre East District as an angry worker of the Ministry of Agriculture who also was an organiser of the event assaulted rawgist.com’s Ashanti regional correspondent; Kwabena Danso-Dapaah hurling punches at him.
This was after the journalist had inquired why residents and invited guests were left in the scorching sun till 11:45 to commence the farmers’ day festivities.
According to programme’s timetable it was expected to start at 9am.
Seated invited guests and reporters where not happy about the delay and wanted to know what is causing it from one of the organizers.
The District Chief Executive Iddisah Adams and his entourage arrived at the durbar grounds exactly 11:25am when participants were complaining of suffering unduly under the scorching sun and were threatening to return home.
Boateng Agyemang, staff of the Ministry of Agriculture who reportedly played vital role in the organization of the event in the district did not take it kindly when this reporter asked him why the programme is still not started.
Angry Boateng Agyemang asked this reporter his locus to ask such “foolish” question.
“Who has invited you here… if you can’t wait leave here. I don’t care what you will publish out there” , a colleague journalist who witnessed the incident confirmed.
He followed the journalist to his seat and threw a punch at him which nearly landed him on the floor causing some Policemen and an Assembly man to intervene.
Kwabena who says he has sought medical treatment tells rawgist.com he is proceeding to file a complaint with the Police.
Residents and farmers within the Kwabre East District of the Ashanti region are still unhappy with what they interpret as disrespect shown them during this year’s farmers’ day celebration.
