Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, Minister of Health, has directed that the conduct of certain officials at the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba be reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Attorney General’s Department for further action.
This directive comes after an investigation by the Ghana Health Service (GHS), which found that some hospital officials were implicated in the mishandling of a patient who was transferred to Ojobi and subsequently abandoned, resulting in her death.
The Ministry of Health (MoH), in a statement issued on Wednesday, acknowledged that the GHS committee had recommended internal disciplinary action against the staff involved.
However, the Ministry emphasized that, given the gravity of the case, it requires additional scrutiny and possible legal action by the Attorney General and Minister for Justice to ensure accountability.
“Consequently, the Ministry of Health has requested the assistance of the AG to initiate an investigation into the case to determine the culpability or otherwise of the affected staff and take any further action deemed appropriate. This matter has also been reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
“The Ministry of Health is committed to the recommendations made by the committee of the GHS. The full report of the committee is available on the website of the Ministry of Health.
“The Ministry reiterates its dedication to upholding the highest standards of healthcare delivery and ensuring that the tragic circumstances leading to this incident are not repeated,” it stated.
