MTN Foundation officials on Friday inspected a 6-Unit classroom block under construction for the Nhyiaeso D/A Basic School in the Asante Akyem North District of the Ashanti Region.
The project will cost MTN Foundation 478, 000 ghana cedis upon completion and it has spaces for a library as well as offices for staff and the school’s head teacher.
The Foundation will also furnish the classrooms to enhance academic work.
Speaking during a tour of the site Friday morning, Sam Koranteng, MTN Corporate Services Executive and a Director at the Foundation commended the chiefs and people of the town as well as the school’s administration for the support they have offered to the contractor.
He hoped upon completion of the project all children who are of school going age in Nhyiaeso as well as the other adjoining communities will find a better atmosphere to access quality education.
”MTN Foundation is glad to be putting up this educational infrastructure for this community and our aim is to give these kids a better environment to study in even as they grow”, Mr Koranteng noted.
MAINTENANCE:
The Corporate Services Executive asked the school authorities to ensure they maintain the school structure when completed and handed over to them.
This, he noted will urge the company to expend further assistance to them when need be.
Mr Koranteng commended Ohemeng Tawiah, an investigative journalist with Multimedia for drawing the Foundation’s attention to the plight of children at Nhyiaeso.
He said, ‘quality education could only be achieved when commensurate teaching and learning environments are created for children to study’.
EDUCATIONAL DIRECTOR:
On his part, Ernest Kwadwo Afari, Asante Akyem North District Director of Education praised MTN for showing support to the Nhyiaeso community.
He said the facilities at the school left much to be desired, adding that the provision of the 6-unit infrastructure will boost learning and teaching at the deprived community school.
CHIEF:
Addressing MTN officials after the tour, the Regent of Nhyiaeso, Nana Owusu Akyiaw Brempong thanked MTN for the gesture.
He urged the community to support the contractor working on the project so that work would be completed by September to allow children to enroll in school at the next academic calendar.
