MTN Ghana marks International Literacy Day with children of Konkomah in the Ashanti Region
MTN Ghana on Friday joined the Chiefs and people of Konkomah to mark this year’s International Literacy Day in a beautiful ceremony riddled with academic activities.
Pupils in the village were put into small groups, refreshed and taught how to read. The kids also had the opportunity to read and also ask questions. They were also taken through scientific lessons and demonstrations using science sets.
Learning materials including books and science sets were donated to the kids.
The chiefs and people of Konkomah who were excited about the programme also had the opportunity to share their challenges with MTN and seek their help.
Head of Technical for MTN’s Northern Business District; Charles Osei Akoto who spoke to journalists after the event explained that the purpose of MTN’s visit was to motivate them and ignite the passion for reading in the kids. “We also used the opportunity to encourage parents to take their wards’ education seriously” he said. He also explained that the project falls in line with MTN foundation’s focus areas which are health, Education and Economic empowerment.
This year’s International Literacy Day was celebrated on Wednesday 8th September, 2021 under the theme “Literacy for a human-centred recovery: Narrowing the digital divide”.
