Ghana Business News-MTN, Ghana’s leading telecommunications service provider has supported the 2018 Hajj programme with donations and refurbishment to the tune of GH¢144,000.
MTN Ghana donated smart phones, airtime and souvenirs to the Hajj Board at a brief ceremony held at the Hajj Village in Accra. In addition to the presentation of the items for this year’s Hajj,MTN has also refurbished the lodging area of the Accra Hajj Village which accommodates over 500 pilgrims. The renovation consisted of the replacement of old and worn out tent covering the lodging area with a new one.
Also, as part of initiatives to support and provide seamless services for Hajj pilgrims, MTN has set up Mobile Money stands at the Hajj villages in Accra and Tamale. This is to enable pilgrims have fast access to secure and convenient money transfer services. MTN Prepaid and Postpaid customers roaming in Saudi Arabia will roam on Mobily network without dialing any USSD code to make or receive calls. Pilgrims can also access the MTN “Hajj Offer” on short code *5090# to enjoy discounts on outgoing calls, SMS and data.
Speaking at the Hajj Village to hand over the items to the Chairman of the Hajj Board, the General Manager for Sales and Distribution at MTN, Mr. Abubakar Mohammed reiterated MTN’s commitment to supporting the activities of Muslim pilgrims and the Hajj Board. He said, “Hajj is a special religious journey in the life of every Muslim and MTN’s support to the Hajj Board is aimed at providing seamless services for the pilgrims that will embark on the journey. Itis our hope that the donation and refurbishment will help make this year’s pilgrimage a great success.”
Mr. Abubakar expressed MTN’s gratitude to the Muslim community, especially the National Hajj Board for partnering with MTN over the past years to design offers that give pilgrims the opportunity to stay connected with family and friends whilst in Mecca.
Receiving the presentation, Sheikh I.C Quaye, Chairman of the National Hajj Board, expressed his appreciation to the leadership of MTN for their commitment to support the Hajj Board and Muslim community in diverse ways.
MTN has been supportive to the Muslim community over the years. In 2017 MTN Ghana refurbished the lodging area by tiling the floor at a cost of GHc200, 000 and also donated devices and airtime worth over GHc 30,000.00. Over the past 11 years, MTN Ghana has consistently donated cash, food items, drinks and airtime to the National Chief Imam during the celebration of the Eidul Fitr festival and also supported the organization of Sallafest in Nima and Accra Newtown. As part of this year’s Eidul Fitr celebrations, MTN made a presentation to the
National Chief Imam, as well as Regional Chief imams in Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale.
