Mugabe’s attack on Ghana: Kufuor was better placed to react – Hamid

KuffourFormer President John Kufuor had the confidence to react to the apparent ridicule of the state of development in Ghana by Zimbabwe’s Mugabe because he (Kufuor) ,had enough basis to do so, spokesperson for Nana Akufo-Addo has said .

According to Mustapha Hamid, the former president replied Mugabe because he had done enough work during his time as president to move the country forward .

The 90-year-old Zimbabwean leader is reported to have said Ghana is in the same undeveloped state it was when he met his wife Sally in the 1960s.

“I have been to Ghana 1958 to 1960 and when you look at them now and compare their present situation to that [which] existed in the 1960s, no change” .

But speaking to Kafui Dey on Morning Starr on Starr 103.5FM, on the occasion of his 76th birthday, the former Ghanaian President said the assertion by the 90-year-old leader is an opinion which is not true.

“That is his opinion and I would leave it at that… but Ghana definitely has made some improvements, in fact fantastic improvements from the 1960s. The population now is near 30 million, that time 60s, 70s Ghana was just about 10 million and that is a lot of difference.

“In terms of physical developments and other aspects I believe our country has moved on quite a lot,” Kufuor said Monday.

Commenting on the development, the Muslim Scholar said kufuor was better placed to respond to the unprovoked attack by the Zimbabwean leader.

“ You heard his interview on the Radio station, because he can speak with boldness and tell Mugabe that you are wrong.

“Because when he came into government, this is where the country was and this is what we have done, he did a lot of work for this country and the evidence is clear” Hamid told the Media during the second memorial lecture of the late Vice President Aliu Mahama in Accra, Tuesday.
