Mr Philip Kwaku Acheampong, a Kumasi based gospel musician has launched a foundation to aid in the unearthing of talents amongst persons who are visually challenged.
The move, according to Mr Acheampong is to help get persons with sight disabilities from the street as they are given support to make their individual talents count for the society.
Speaking to this reporter during the launch of a special foundation which is named Agent of Worship last Sunday, Mr Acheampong recalled the difficulties persons of sight challenges go through daily, noting the desire to use the project to support persons of sight problems.
He narrated how these visually challenged persons struggle to put food on the table, adding those who had no one to assist them struggle to get to the streets to beg for alms so as to feed.
REALITY SHOW:
Mr Acheampong mentioned plans by the Foundation to solicit for funds from the public and corporate as well as private organizations through the holding of a reality show to help in the upkeep of the recruits.
Christened the Vision of Music Reality Show, the Founder explained groups of visually impaired musicians would be recruited and trained to perform in live audience engagements for three months.
At these outdoor functions, there would be a panel to award points on which groups performed well at the end of the show after which the best will be rewarded, Mr Acheampong noted.
According to the Founder, after the three months of competition between the groups the first to the third placed groups will be given prizes yet to be determined as they are also put on a management to help them record their personal albums.
BOARD CHAIRMAN:
Launching an appeal for funds at the event later, Board Chairman of the Foundation, Apostle Steve Paintsil of the Central Charismatic Baptist Church (CCBC) challenged the public to join in such ventures to keep the needy from the streets.
According to him, every country is best reflected in the way they treat the needy and the vulnerable in its society.
He, therefore, encouraged other artistes and citizens to use the influence and positions they hold to support initiatives such as the Agent of Worship Foundation and the upcoming reality show.
He urged the public to fully contribute for the upkeep of the visually challenged when the music show commences so as to get them off the street.
Present at the colourful launch were other board members of the Foundation including the Metro Health Director Mrs Biritwum and Dr Kwabena Nyarko Biritwum.
