Even before the dust settles for the outgoing government to do a proper post-mortem to ascertain the root cause of the humiliating defeat it suffered recently at the polls, the Ashanti Regional Campaign Coordinator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Andy Osei Okrah is alleged to be chasing the party’s regional communications officer for a supposed campaign vehicle.
The vehicle with registration number GM-851-16, according to a credible source is parked outside Kumasi and was been driven by Samed Akalilu, the regional communications officer during the 2016 campaign period.
Information picked up by the Ghanaian Observer Newspaper indicated the campaign coordinator wants the car back and had informed the Regional Police Command to help him seize the car anytime it was found on the streets of Kumasi.
When contacted on Phone, Samed Akalilu, the communications officer denied comment on the issue and said he would rather treat the matter as a family issue.
CONFIRMATION:
However, Yakubu Tony Aidoo, a communications member of the NDC confirmed the story and noted the Regional Communications Officer had been targeted just because he looks humble and non-violent.
He questioned why other members of the campaign team including regional executives had similar vehicles but had not been told to return them as is being done to Samed Akalilu.
Meanwhile, efforts to reach the deputy minister on phone last Tuesday for his side of the unfolding issue hit a snag as his MTN line was unreachable
This unfolding debacle follows several attacks on other officers of the party by known NDC faithful and members including Joseph Yammin, former Regional Secretary of the party, Yamoah Ponkoh and Alhaji Tapsoba, former Ejisu-Juaben Municipal Chief Executive and former Deputy Coordinator for the National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) respectively, who claimed Andy Okrah was to blame for the party’s defeat.
ATTACKS:
The Kumasi airwaves for the past three days have been inundated with personal and verbal attacks on persons suspected to be the cause of the NDC’s defeat.
On Nhyira Fm, Yamoah Ponkoh openly accused Mr Okrah of stealing campaign funds allocated to him for grass-root work.
He also claimed the coordinator and some party executives had hoarded items and resources meant for outdoor campaign in the Ashanti Region.
Joseph Yammin, Deputy National Coordinator for the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) on Abusua Fm, another Kumasi based radio station lambasted the former regional minister, Peter Anarfi and the current regional executives as being the cause of the party’s humiliating defeat.
LOCKED OFFICES:
Last Tuesday, Yakubu Tony Aidoo, a known NDC serial caller and Asawase communications officer locked up the regional offices of the party, claiming the executives had no business coming there to work.
According to him, rather than working for victory some of the executives had taken to the drinking of alcohol and womanizing and had left the party business unattended.
Though the party managed to open the locked offices later in the day, the Asawase officer was alleged to have locked up the Asawase constituency office with several padlocks as a sign of an unending protest.
