Some members of the Kumasi metropolitan Assembly (KMA) led by their Presiding Member (PM) are alleging that traders at the Kumasi Central Market and Kejetia bus terminals are likely to lose their shops to loyalists of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the project is completed.
According to them, the data collection and collation of names of traders before the commencement of the project could be hijacked and influenced in favor of party stalwarts and loyalists of the NDC at the expense of the original owners of the stores.
They are however entreating all traders to monitor and evaluate developments as they unfold in order not to be taken unawares.
Addressing a section of the traders and the Assembly Members at a Press Conference Monday, the Presiding Member, Nana Kofi Senyah said they feel sidelined because the matter has not come up for deliberations at the General Assembly Meeting.
He further said, it is about time the political twists and turns, agitations and diversionary tendencies were put to rest to give room for serious deliberations at the General Assembly on the way forward.
“It is based on this premise that I strongly advise that the traders remain at their respective places pending a decision at the General Assembly level on the original plan of action”, he stated.
Honorable Senyah cited the stalled Krofrom market project, indicating that the redevelopment of that market would have catered for a considerable number of traders to be displaced from the Central Market.
He added that he intends summoning an Emergency General Assembly Meeting any time soon to arrive at a collective decision that will be convenient to all parties concerned.
