NDC Senior Member Lauds Government Supply Of Sanitary Pads

alhajiabdallahAlhaji Abdallah Ahmed-Abdallah, a Senior Member of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the weekend described the government intention to supply girls with sanitary pads as a hospitable idea that required a national policy guideline.

He said though such good intention of the government had received several criticisms especially from opposition parties and other institutions, a guideline is needed to support and sustain it.

Alhaji Ahmed-Abdallah, who is a former NDC Regional Chairman in Brong-Ahafo, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview in Sunyani that urinal tract infections were rife among adolescent girls, because they could not manage themselves well during menstruation.

He observed that in many of the deprived communities, many parents could not afford to provide their daughters with basic adolescent needs for their upkeeps, regretting that such girls had no other option than to manage old and tattered panties, underwear, brassier and unsanitary rags.

Alhaji Ahmed-Abdallah, Managing Director of PMC African Limited, Accra-based construction firm explained that adolescent girls developed and went through many characteristics noting that if they are not able to meet their basic needs at that particularly it affected them psychologically.

He was upset that instead of Ghanaians to sit up and critically analyse certain policies that would help alleviate the plight of majority of citizens, many of them rather looked into such policies with political lenses.Sanitary Pads

Popularly known as “Alhaji PMC”, the former NDC regional chairman advised the government to avoid it detractors and endeavour to fulfil, if not all, majority of the NDC manifesto to live a legacy that would push electorate to renew the party’s mandate in the 2016 general election.
