Youth of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) have threatened to prevent former President John Dramani Mahama from honoring future state functions.
They are unhappy with the state broadcaster; GTV over what they allege is a media blackout on President John Mahama’s interactions with President Akufo Addo.
Speaking exclusively with rawgist.com on the situation, Ashanti regional NDC youth Organiser Yaw Brogya Genfi explained that it is a worrying trend which must be addressed immediately. He challenged the Minister of Information to immediately caution the managers of the state broadcaster on the issue if indeed it is not deliberate. “If they will not allow us to see the statesmanship exhibited by these two great men of our land and the peace, unity and harmony they symbolize by the handshakes and show of friendship at state functions, then there’s no point in allowing former President Mahama attend such functions”, he stressed.
Yaw Brogya Genfi who is the immediate former Parliamentary candidate for Suame on the NDC’s ticket accused the President’s communication outfit of shielding pictures of Nana Addo and John Mahama’s interactions at the inauguration of Gambian President Adama Barrow until President Mahama’s outfit released the pictures. “A similar thing happened yesterday at the Independence day celebration. GTV showed the President shaking hands and interacting with all the other dignitaries but switched the camera to other things when it got to Former President Mahama.”
He explained that interactions between the two figureheads bear great symbolism for the nation and their followers and should not trifled with.
