The Students’ Representative Council, SRC of the Kumasi Polytechnic has rubbished allegations of embezzlement brought against the SRC by some students a week ago.
Last week, some students of the school made headlines as they demonstrated against the current SRC claiming that the executives have embezzled and mismanaged their resources. They demanded accountability on SRC week celebration, cost of repairing SRC buses, number of classroom furniture provided by the administration, cost of solar lights, handling of internally generated funds among others.
In a press release by the SRC executives on Tuesday May 3, they stated that, the Thomas Owusu Asante led administration subjected itself to audit by the auditors at the end of the first semester as the constitution demands. They added that the audit report of the first semester has been made available for student’s perusal on the notice boards by their administration.
The SRC President, Thomas Owusu Asante says the Rector of the institution, Prof. N. N. N. Nsowah-Nuamah has even applauded their administration for their good works and has described them as the best since the school’s inception.
He however attributed the allegations raised by some students as a result of communication failure and admitted that the SRC week celebration was not successful as expected due to sponsorship failure.
They have outlined some key achievements of their administration:
- Little Drop Fund (LDF) scholarship that paid school fees and hostel fees for over fifty (50) students
- Solar power system at some vital points on campus
- One thousand (1000) pieces of lecture hall furniture for various lecture halls
- An ongoing canopy in front of cash office to create shade for students who make payment at the school’s cash office
- Internally Generated Fund (IGF) account with Kumasi Polytechnic co-operative credit union
- Renovation of the SRC conference hall
- A four hundred thousand contribution to the SRC hostel project at Adako Jachie
- Repaired an obsolete SRC bus
