The National Chairman and General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party are facing fresh internal enquiry for allegedly creating an unauthorized platform to fraudulently collect funds from party members around the world.
The National Chairman, Paul Afoko, on Wednesday issued a statement announcing the launch of the online platform, www.nppcentre.org to both register NPP members and raise funds ahead of the 2016 elections.
However, the National Treasurer of the party, Abankwa Yeboah says the fundraising portal is fraudulent and not authorized by the NPP.
He says some members of the party who were lured to use the platform have already filed an official report with the police.
The party’s national council and executive committees have hinted they will launch a probe into the issue.
In an interview with Joy News’ Evans Mensah, Mr Yeboah said, “I want to state categorically that the National Executive Committee of the NPP has not approved any such website www.nppcentre.org to raise funds for the party.
“Nothing of the sort has been approved. The approval of any such activity goes through the National Executive Committee and being the secretary and member of the finance committee nothing of the sort has been placed before the NEC.
“I want to say that that website is illegal and I would urge all party members and any sympathizer of the party not to participate in that website,” he stated.
According to Mr Yeboah, the website is under investigation because it is collecting money which is not coming to the party.
He challenged the National Secretary to come out with details of which party bank account the monies are being deposited.
A formal complaint has been made to the police, he said.
