The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is expected to meet on Wednesday to approve the date proposed by the National Executive committee (NEC) of the party for a special congress.
The steering committee is proposing August 30th as the date for a special congress to cut down the number of flagbearer aspirants from seven to five.
Confirming the proposed date to Citi News, the first Vice Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay said a lot of thinking has gone into the proposal and the National Council is expected to endorse it.
He explained that the committee has performed the duties required of them, and they are waiting for the endorsement and affirmation of the proposal.
He said, “we looked at several other factors and we are convinced that this is what will be good for the party. We do not have the final authority, and we have brought it up as a proposal. According to our constitution, it is our prerogative to do this, so we are living up to it.”
