Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman; Bernard Antwi Boasiako a.k.a Chairman Wontumi
The Chairman of the Ashanti Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr Bernard Antwi Boasiako says the victory of the former President, John Mahama in the recent flag-bearer race of the NDC was predictable.
According to him, the NPP knew way ahead of time that the NDC would choose the former President as its candidate for the 2020 presidential election.
Speaking to Kwabena Ampratwum, morning show host of Silver Fm in Kumasi, Mr Boasiako noted that the choice of Mahama gives the NPP the advantage to humiliate the NDC in the upcoming general elections in 2020.
The NDC, the flamboyant regional chair said have not learnt the lessons the NPP taught it in 2016, adding the opposition party have brought into the political market a bad product in the shape of Mr Mahama.
‘’It is surprising that even with all the caution the NPP sent ahead of the flag-bearer elections, the NDC has chosen to bring into the political market a rejected product in the shape of Mr Mahama’’, Chairman Wontumi stressed.
TRUMP CARD:
According to the outspoken chairman, the NPP stands out with its unique style of governance where everyone is allowed to speak their mind outside and inside the party and government.
This style, he noted has endeared the party to the citizenry since everyone feels liberated to either contribute their quota to the development plan of the government or criticize the government in the implementation process.
The NPP, Mr Wontumi mentioned was focused on what they were elected into the office to do but added the party also has a strategy to deal with the NDC ahead of the 2020 polls.
The NDC, the regional Chair posited has made the work of the NPP easy by electing the former President as flag-bearer, adding the former President will be no match for the NPP.
‘’It is very interesting that the NDC finds Mr Mahama as a worthy candidate to beat the NPP who now has the benefit of being in government and fulfilling its promises to the good people’’, Chairman Wontumi noted.
BETTER CANDIDATE:
Touting the achievements of the NPP and the sitting President, Chairman Wontumi opined the NPP government under Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has in two years performed creditably well with the mandate given the party by the people.
Programs such as the free senior high school education, one district one factory and many others, the President has shown commitment to ensuring the Ghanaians do well in life, Mr Wontumi stated.
The Economy, the Regional Chairman noted has fared much better under the NPP than how the NDC managed it from 2009 to 2016.
This, Mr Wontumi stressed would be the basis of comparison by the citizenry before the 2020 general elections are held.
