The National Vocational Training Institute has lamented the unemployment situation in the country and called on the teeming unemployed youth to take up vocational training.
Executive Director of the NVTI, Steven Amponsah tells rawgist.com opportunities for formal employment are fast dwindling.
He says vocational education is not a preserve of illiterates and the less educated. He wants graduates to also acquire vocational skills to move the country forward. He believes there are many opportunities in the field of vocational education the youth can take advantage of.
“A graduate of marketing can acquire a skill, gather other people to work with and manage them using his marketing skills”, he said and added that the country is churning out so many graduates than formal employment can take in.
Mr. Amponsah says the trend now is self employment utilizing vocational and technical skills.
He was speaking on the sidelines of a national training programme for teachers of vocational and technical courses held at NVTI’s training centre at Suame in Kumasi to further build the capacities of teachers in vocational training.
