The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised serious concerns regarding the Electoral Commission’s (EC) selection of YASARKO, a company contracted to print materials for the upcoming elections.
The NDC’s “Eagle Eyes” initiative, which deploys dedicated party agents and supervisors to monitor ballot printing, has highlighted issues with YASARKO’s performance.
According to the NDC, the company has repeatedly failed to meet its obligations since the start of the printing process, leading to frustration and wasted resources as NDC agents continue monitoring on a sustained 24-hour basis.
In a statement by the Director of Elections and IT, Dr Edward Omane Boamah questioned the due diligence conducted by the Electoral Commission prior to awarding YASARKO the contract.
Citing “excuses upon excuses” from the company, the Dr Omane Boamah suggested that YASARKO may not have won the contract based on genuine capacity and competence, hinting at potential irregularities in the selection process.
According to him, the NDC agents suspect that some contracted companies may have intended to print ballot papers offsite, which, if true, could compromise the integrity of the electoral materials.
Additionally, the NDC’s vigilant monitors claim to have observed instances of excessive ballot papers, or “overs,” printed beyond the permissible excess.
They have since secured an agreement with printing companies to ensure that all excess ballot papers are counted and accounted for before shredding.
The NDC’s dedicated “Eagle Eyes” team includes prominent agents and supervisors like former Army Officer Richard Jakpa, known for his role in high-profile cases, as well as Lawyer Natongmah, Atamudzi, Malik, and several others.
These team members have reportedly been effective in holding printing firms accountable, reinforcing the party’s commitment to safeguarding electoral integrity.
The party has also called upon its members to support its efforts in unseating what it describes as the “corrupt and incompetent Akufo-Addo-Bawumia government” and urged voters to back John Dramani Mahama for a new direction.
He highlighted Mahama’s pledge to create well-paying jobs through a 24-hour economy initiative and a commitment to recover public funds through “Operation Recover All Loot (O.R.A.L).”
