Organised labour unhappy with government over unfriendly social policies

seth-terkper1Organized labour has advised government to put together the several fine brains the country has in order to solve the country’s economic woes.

Deputy  Secretary General of the Trades Union Congress, Dr. Yaw Baah says  labour believes government has what it takes to raise the wages of public sector workers.

He says figures being put out by government on the fraction of the country’s revenue that goes into wages are conflicting and urges government to tell Ghanaians the truth about the figure.

The labour activist also points out that calls on labour to ensure productivity among workers are misplaced, adding that it is the responsibility of the employer to monitor and ensure productivity.

He also condemned what he called unfriendly social policies being operated by government, naming the fuel subsidy withdrawals, utility price hikes, government’s decision to freeze wage increases among others.

“I am always surprised the minister goes around saying Ghana is doing well when we have teaming young people on the streets without decent jobs”, he said and adds that the TUC believes government is doing the bidding of the IMF, a situation the union believes will not inure to the country’s benefit.
