The Asantehene Otumfour Osei Tutu II has thrown a challenge to world leaders to organize an international conference of all nations to discuss ways of ending religious extremism and terrorist insurgency gaining grounds in several nations of the world.
Otumfuo made the appeal when he received an honorary doctorate degree from the U.S based Oral Roberts Ministries Wednesday at the Calvary Charismatic Center in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi.
Addressing the congregants, the Otumfuo condemned religious extremism and its excesses leading to civil unrest and the heartless slaughtering of innocent lives.
He charged religious leaders present to help bring to an end the recent spate of religious extremism especially in Nigeria, Sudan and other African countries facing similar challenges.
“All around us, multitudes are perishing from conflicts that are defying solutions. The saddest of all, most of these conflicts are being waged in the name of religion. I urge all combatants to renounce the notion that we serve the course of God by killing each other”. He stated.
The Asantehene proposed that the World Economic Forum introduces a segment for discussing solutions to terrorism in their annual meetings.
He explained that a concerted effort from world leaders provides a potent force for dealing with the menace.
Otumfour Osei Tutu II called on nations to emulate Asanteman which was once a warrior kingdom but now lived peacefully with its former foes.
